Sustainability Coordinators Workshop

12–14 February 2026

What?

The Sustainability Coordinators Workshop at Vienna International School (VIS) February 12-14 2026, is a professional learning experience for educators who are driving sustainable change across schools.

This two-day workshop is designed for educators, sustainability leads, and school leaders who are committed to transforming education into a force for regeneration and renewal.

Facilitated by workshop leaders from VIS and Sustainability Education (SusEd), participants will explore three essential questions that lie at the heart of every sustainability journey:

  1. What is my role?
  2. What is the optimal environment for sustainability education in my school?
  3. Action planning: What will my verse be?

Sessions blend reflection, theory, and practical strategy, using the school as both context and catalyst for change. Participants will explore how to design learning environments that foster systems thinking, deepen engagement, and build the pedagogical and cultural conditions for sustainability, in its broadest sense, to thrive.

Why?

We are living through a time of unprecedented ecological and social upheaval. The systems that sustain us, environmental, economic, cultural, and educational, are under pressure as never before. Education is not immune; in fact, it is both part of the problem and part of the solution.

Schools today face a defining choice: Will we be mirrors of society as it is or, change agents shaping the world as it could be? This workshop invites participants to confront this question directly, engaging with ideas, tools, and practices that help schools move from rhetoric to reality. By drawing on regenerative thinking, pedagogical leadership, and action research, participants will emerge with renewed clarity of purpose and a plan for whole-school transformation.

What for?

By the end of the workshop, you will be equipped to:

·        Lead your institution in developing new, systemic approaches to sustainability education.

·        Strengthen your confidence as a pedagogical and strategic leader.

·        Build coherence between classroom practice, campus operations, and community engagement.

·        Contribute to a regional and international network of schools acting for a sustainable future.

Participants become part of a growing community of practice, educators, coordinators and leaders across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East who are learning together, sharing strategies, and inspiring others.

How?

The workshop is a two-day, in-person learning experience featuring immersive sessions, collaborative projects, and facilitated reflection. Each participant will leave with an action plan, their own “verse”, to guide their next steps in school transformation.

Places are limited to ensure depth of engagement. Schools are encouraged to consider sending a small team of colleagues to maximise institutional impact.

Fee: €895 per participant (includes all sessions, materials, lunches, and refreshments).
