The Vienna International School is looking to recruit the following position as of October 2026:

Individual (1:1) Learning Assistant (ILA) in Primary School

  • 50% part-time employment, parent-funded
  • fixed-term employment until the last day of school 2026/27 (June 25th, 2027)
  • expected starting date: October 1st, 2026
  • ESS working conditions - depending on years of relevant training and experience: gross monthly salary full-time between € 2,858.72 and € 3,856.76

We are seeking a caring, patient, and proactive Individual Learning Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a student. The successful candidate will have experience supporting emotional regulation, social skills, and positive behavior, and will be able to build a trusting relationship with the student while encouraging independence and confidence. Experience using practical strategies to support emotional regulation and to develop social communication skills is highly desirable.

Competencies & Experience:

  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, flexibility, and a compassionate approach to supporting children with diverse needs
  • Have knowledge of the implementation of behavioral interventions and behavior modification plans for students with diverse needs
  • Have knowledge of emotional regulation and sensory processing strategies of students with diverse needs
  • Be able to implement proactive and preventative approaches to support students
  • Have the ability to communicate in calm and consistent manner
  • Experience supporting students with a range of identified learning needs, including literacy and numeracy challenges, social-emotional and communication needs, executive functioning difficulties, and neurodiverse learning profiles
  • Qualifications in special education desirable
  • Fluency in English
  • The proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in teams
  • The perseverance required to maintain high standards
  • Can draw upon a wide range of appropriate strategies to meet a student’s diverse learning, social, and behavioral needs
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and leadership staff
