Service in Action: Students Support Global Accessibility at the 2026 Zero Project Conference

During the February break, our Grade 10 and 11 students headed to the Austrian Parliament and the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) to support the Zero Project Conference, a global event focused on disability rights and accessibility.

Working as part of their Service as Action and CAS requirements, our students helped manage a massive network of over 1,000 policymakers and advocates.

From Parliament to the UN

The week kicked off with an opening ceremony at the Austrian Parliament, hosted by National Council President Walter Rosenkranz, before moving to the UN for three days of high-level sessions. Our students were right in the middle of the action, taking on several key roles:

  • Logistics & Hospitality: Welcoming VIP guests and managing help desks.
  • Media Support: Assisting photography and social media teams.
  • Session Management: Keeping professional presentations running on time.

Real-World Impact

This wasn't just a volunteer trip; it was a lesson in global citizenship. By supporting the conference, students contributed directly to UN Sustainable Development Goals regarding quality education and reduced inequalities.

"The students were true ambassadors. They handled a fast-paced, professional environment with incredible maturity, building skills you just can't get in a classroom."

Developing Skills for the Future

For our CAS and Service as Action participants, this was a chance to tackle new challenges and see how local service addresses global issues. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and their commitment to building a more inclusive world.

Well done to all our volunteers!
