Vienna International School (VIS) is an inclusive community which is proud of its diversity. From Monday, 14 June to Friday, 18 June 2021, VIS celebrated Pride Week, as part of a joint Student Council and Gender and Sexuality Alliance initiative.
VIS strives in its mission to empower all students and, along with the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we want to be an ally in supporting equal rights for everyone – regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender or religion.
Along with organising awareness-generating activities for our students the entire week, we welcomed Guest Speaker Simon Tsai, an Asian Gay man living in Vienna. Simon spoke to the students and welcomed the opportunity to answer their questions while sharing his own experiences with positively confronting racism and homophobia.
At the end of a very busy week, the team managed to raise money to support the Trevor Project, a leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people under 25.
We thank all students for their support and engagement during this Pride Week at VIS!
