MUNoV Secretariat Attends UN Event on Nuclear Test Ban

Students attend the International Day Against Nuclear Tests

On 29 August 2025, the MUNoV 2025 Secretariat had the honor of attending the International Day Against Nuclear Tests (IDANT 25) at the United Nations Offices in Vienna. The invitation came from the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), a UN body dedicated to advancing a world free of nuclear testing.

The event marked the global commemoration of the International Day Against Nuclear Tests, bringing together diplomats, UN officials, and experts to highlight the importance of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) in promoting peace and security. Senior CTBTO representatives shared their perspectives on the treaty’s progress and the continuing global efforts to end nuclear testing.

Our outgoing Secretariat, composed of Grade 12 students, described the occasion as a rare and inspiring opportunity to witness a live UN event. They engaged with distinguished speakers, including CTBTO Executive Secretary Dr. Robert Floyd, UN leaders, and diplomats from around the world.

Reflecting on the experience, the Secretariat emphasized how valuable it was to gain direct exposure to multilateral diplomacy at the highest level. This unique encounter enriched their understanding of international affairs and global cooperation, reinforcing the mission and values of the MUNoV programme.

As the Secretariat passes the torch to the next generation of students, this moment underscores the role of the Model United Nations in empowering young people to become informed, articulate, and globally minded citizens.
