The annual Grade 9 March Madness Poetry competition has officially wrapped up after several exciting weeks of literary analysis, spirited debate, and poetic passion. Working in teams, students explored a range of poems through the lens of Romanticism, analyzing theme, tone, form, and poetic techniques to build compelling arguments in defense of their chosen works.
Guided by their English teachers, students progressed through multiple rounds of the competition, culminating in the Knockout Round held on Wednesday, 30 April, in the Dining Hall. Each Grade 9 class sent forward a team of speakers to present their final arguments before a panel of esteemed judges: Deputy Principals Dr. Roberts and Miss Heyman, along with Grade Level Leader Ms. Dickson.
After a series of powerful presentations, Mrs. Pringle’s class emerged victorious, impressing the judges with their thoughtful, well-reasoned defense. As a reward for their win, the class celebrated with a well-earned pizza party.
Congratulations to all Grade 9 students for their hard work, collaboration, and enthusiasm throughout the competition. A special thank you goes to the English Department—particularly Ms. Sew-Hoy and Ms. Bagwell—for organizing such a dynamic and enriching event.
