It was a spectacular celebration of community, collaboration, and the incredible spirit of VIS that will stay with us for a very long time.
The concert, beautifully entitled "Homeward Bound", celebrated the many denotations and connotations of what "home" means within our diverse, international community. The grand historic church was completely packed to the doors, and the excitement in the air was palpable from the moment the doors opened. Hundreds of families, friends, and community members filled the magnificent venue with warmth, pride, and unwavering support.
A Powerful Display of Collaboration and Talent
This spectacular event united our Primary and Secondary students, teachers, parents, and administration, giving our talented musicians the perfect opportunity to showcase the immense hard work and musical growth they have achieved throughout the school year. More than 250 students took to the stage to perform, serving as a powerful testament to the unifying power of the arts.
The evening featured remarkable performances by our Primary and Secondary Choirs, instrumental bands, and marked the highly anticipated debut of the Pitch Imperfect Community Choir, which brought together adult voices from across the VIS community. Together, these different ensembles created something truly magical, not only through their undeniable musical talent, but through the deep respect, dedication, and pure joy they brought to the stage.
A Historic Finale for Peace
In a fitting tribute to the musical heritage of Vienna, the concert concluded by bringing together every single instrumentalist and singer for a massed finale performance. The combined group delivered a stirring arrangement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ode to Joy.
The choice of piece was particularly meaningful, as it was originally premiered only a few steps away from the Peterskirche itself. Today, this timeless masterpiece stands as a cross-cultural touchstone representing unity and the global pursuit of world peace—a message that resonates deeply with the values of our international school community.
This evening was a beautiful reminder of what music can achieve and exactly what true community looks like. A profound thank you goes out to everyone who performed, supported, organized, rehearsed, applauded, and shared this experience with us.
