VIS Green Teams Raise Funds for WWF Forest Restoration

Forests are essential for regulating our natural environment, yet the latest Global Forest Report indicates that the world’s forest area has declined by more than 40 million hectares over the past ten years.

While global efforts are underway to combat this decline, further action is urgently needed to sustain healthy forests worldwide.

Currently, 42% of the global wood harvest is used to make paper, which ultimately accounts for approximately 25% of landfill waste. As a #GenerationRestoration school, Vienna International School is continuously looking for practical alternatives that allow our students to make meaningful changes, such as reducing paper consumption and supporting global tree-planting initiatives.

Eco-Friendly Student Success at the PTA Summer Bazaar

At the PTA Summer Bazaary, our student Green Teams successfully led two wonderful initiatives to promote sustainability and raise funds for global reforestation:

  • Beeswax Wraps: Students sold these reusable wraps as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic wrap and aluminum foil for packing school snacks.
  • Seed Balls: Visitors purchased seed balls designed to be planted at home or school to create wild meadows and promote local biodiversity.

All proceeds from these sales are contributing directly to the WWF project aimed at restoring world forests and planting a trillion trees. Because every single Euro raised means one tree will be planted, our community's support is making a direct, real-world impact.

Our Ongoing Commitment as an Eco School

As an official Eco School, VIS remains dedicated to fostering habits that lead to a more sustainable lifestyle. Beyond the bazaar, we continue to encourage our entire community to actively participate in daily actions at school, including recycling, reducing overall waste, and minimizing paper use.

Thank you to everyone who visited the Green Team stalls and supported our students' efforts to be part of the change as a #GenerationRestoration school.
