At VIS, we marked Shakespeare’s birthday with a vibrant, cross-grade celebration that brought the spirit of the Bard to life in creative and engaging ways!
The festivities began with Grade 10 Drama students performing a gripping stage combat scene from Romeo and Juliet, captivating the audience with their dramatic skill and theatrical energy. This was followed by a fun and educational quiz exploring Shakespearean entertainment, testing students’ knowledge of the playwright’s world.
In a delightful show of collaboration, the Grade 10s then teamed up with Grade 3 students, who are currently developing their own adaptations of Shakespearean comedies in Drama class. The younger students brought their imaginative stories to life through expressive freeze-frames, showcasing their creativity and understanding of classic storytelling.
The event concluded with an Elizabethan dance, where students and teachers alike joined in to celebrate with rhythm, joy, and a nod to the past.
This celebration was a fantastic example of the power of Performing Arts to connect students across year levels, and a joyful reminder of how timeless—and playful—Shakespeare’s legacy continues to be.
Happy Birthday, Shakespeare!
