During the week of 8 September, our secondary students enjoyed an enriching Activity Week, packed with opportunities to connect learning with the real world.
As part of this week, our Grade 11 students participated in Activation Day – a full-day, immersive workshop led by Arlian Ecker, also known as Plastic-Free Boy. The engaging programme inspired students to become innovative changemakers, equipping them with the tools to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
Through a mix of storytelling, hands-on science activities, and creative project planning, students explored the interconnectedness of global ecosystems — from Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to Crete’s seagrass meadows and Austria’s Danube River. They discovered how everyday decisions and local actions can create powerful ripple effects for positive global change.
The workshop also connected directly to the IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) requirements, giving students a concrete example of how they might develop their own CAS projects to address sustainability challenges.
Grade 11 Activation Day is a shining example of how VIS integrates Education for Sustainable Development into the curriculum, empowering students to think critically and act responsibly.
Well done, Grade 11 — the future is in great hands!
