Newsletter - 13 March

Coronavirus

Dear Parents and Guardians

As per the latest email update you received from school, due to recent developments with regard to the outbreak of COVID-19, Vienna International School will be closed from Monday, 16 March through Friday, 3 April 2020. During this time, all students (Grades ELC to 12) will be taught using the Distance Learning Model which includes the provision for new learning. Families who need the school to supervise their children, because the parents fall into one of the categories of essential employment, will be offered child supervision on-site. These closures have been made under the instructions of the Republic of Austria.

In addition, I would like to stress the importance of the social distancing concept for the following period, in stating that it is up to each of us to take steps towards stopping this virus from spreading. In the most recent press conference, the Austrian Government has recommended residents to stay at home unless essential activities are needed (i.e. buying groceries, going to the pharmacy) and avoid the social gatherings of any kind.

Please keep checking your email regularly and follow the VIS Intranet/ Coronavirus section https://www.vis.ac.at/intranet/home/ to find the latest updates from the School, the answers to frequently asked questions and suggestions on how to support the Distance Learning Programme during the closure time. (find below the shortcuts to the mentioned sections, please login the Intranet previously to be able to access them)

Counselling Services During School Closure

During the school closure, both the primary and secondary school counsellors will be available online to parents and students during regular school hours. They will continue to meet online with students they regularly support, provide responsive counselling services, and support the social and emotional learning aspect of online classroom teaching.

In the Primary School, parents can reach Elizabeth Iino via email (eiino(at)vis.ac.at).

In the Secondary School, parents have the option of requesting that the counsellor make direct contact with their child using this form, or contacting Kirsty Hantsch via email (khantsch(at)vis.ac.at). Secondary students have also been informed how they can make appointments directly with Ms. Hantsch using the following link.

The 2020 Yearbook is now under construction and getting ready for production. This year the price will again remain at 55euro per Yearbook and 100euro for 2 Yearbooks. If you wish to order more than 2 Yearbooks, then the price is 50euro per Yearbook. Please ensure that you only make one payment for the total sum of the multiple books and not separate payments. The discount of multiple Yearbooks is ONLY for families with more than one child. It is not for a group of families to get together to place one order to make it slightly cheaper for themselves. We recognize that the Yearbooks cost a reasonable amount of money and are trying to make it easier for families to afford to buy one Yearbook per child.

If you would like to order one (or more) Yearbooks, please make the payment to the VIS bank account by 12pm Friday 24th April. There is no need to email the Yearbook Team to confirm your order.

You will find below the details to make an online or in bank payment:

Erste Bank

Am Belvedere 1

1100 Wien

IBAN: AT27 2011 1837 2730 1401

BIC: GIBAATWWXXX

Payable to: Vienna International School Yearbook

Please ensure that you put in the reference section your child's name and class.  If you are ordering more than one Yearbook, please put in the name and class of the child that you would like to receive or collect the Yearbooks. It is usually better that older siblings collect the Yearbooks as they are very heavy for young children to carry and less likely to get lost.

Once the books arrive in school, copies ordered for students in the Primary School will be delivered to the homeroom classes and passed directly to the students in their homeroom. Secondary students and parents will be able to collect their copies during specified times in the Secondary Library. It is important to keep a copy of your payment proof to bring along when you collect your copy of the Yearbook in the case that we do not receive record of your payment from the banks.

We are planning for the books to be available by early June, sometimes there are delays, but definitely they will be distributed before the end of the school year. If you are leaving the school and would like to have a Yearbook posted to you, then please contact the Yearbook Team to find out about arrangements for this. An email is sent out to all and a notification in the newsletter will take place once the books are ready for distribution.

Students who arrive at VIS before mid-March are included in the Yearbook.

Please note that there will only be the number of Yearbooks requested in advance actually ordered, so please take care not to miss out on your copy. If you do not prepay your order you will likely not receive a copy of the Yearbook.

Any queries, please contact us: visyearbook(at)vis.ac.at

Re-Enrolment Process 2020-2021

The Re-enrolment process for 2020-2021 is finished, all of you have indicated a YES, NO or UNDECIDED on the online form. However, in the unexpected event that the re-enrolment status of your child changes again between today and the beginning of the new academic year, please advise so in an email to annualre-enrolment(at)vis.ac.at.

If, for any reason, you need to withdraw your child from VIS you are asked to send a written notice to the Admissions Office, admissions(at)vis.ac.at. The following is an excerpt of the annually published VIS tuition fees schedule 2019-2020, page 5:

Early Departures: Parents/Guardians may terminate the schooling contract prematurely before its expiration at the end of the school year by way of a notice in writing to the Admissions Coordinator. The termination takes effect at the end of the second (2nd) calendar month following the month of receipt of the notice by VIS, unless the notice expressly states that the termination take effect on the last day of a later month. Unless notice is given in writing, fees will continue to be charged and the deposit will not be returned.

School Fees are calculated pro rata on the basis of complete calendar months, are payable until the termination takes effect. If the termination takes effect at the end of the month of May, School Fees are payable until the end of the school year. Unless notice is given in writing, fees will continue to be charged and the deposit will not be reimbursed. For example: If you must withdraw your child/ren from VIS at the end of May 2020, you will have to notify the Admissions Team in writing by the end of March 2020.

In the case of early departures, all and any of the school’s outstanding claims against the parent/guardian are due and payable not later than on the school working day preceding the last day of the student’s attendance. Parents/Guardians are entitled to a refund (without interest) of a credit balance of school fees paid in advance, if any, remaining after settlement of any and all outstanding claims. Parents/Guardians are responsible for the payment of all fees.
