VIS is celebrating the Global Action Day

On 16 November 2018, our teams of students came together to celebrate the Global Action Day.

Vienna International School was designated the first International Eco School in Austria in October 2017. Since then the school community has been committed to creating awareness of the need for a sustainable environment and to leave a green print on our planet.  Our students designed and implemented programmes to reduce and recycle water and other waste, to improve the school outdoor environment, and to study and support biodiversity in school and its environs.

On 16 November 2018, our teams of students came together to celebrate the Global Action Day. On this day, the Green Teams students highlighted the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as part of school’s assumed environmental mission. Students from Grade One to Grade Twelve designed specific stands to reflect each of the Sustainable Development Goals and interacted with the entire school community and guests, in persuading them of the importance of accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, in order to protect our planet. Moreover, Vienna International School had the pleasure to host the Embassy of Slovenia in Austria, leaded by Her Excellency Ambassador Ksenija Skrilec, when offering the students, a Honey Bee Breakfast, in an attempt to draw attention to the importance of pollination to the environment. We were also honoured to have guests representing the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Mrs. Irene Katzensteiner), the Austrian Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management (Mrs. Elisabeth Freytag Rigler) and other distinguished guests from the United Nations organizations, constant partners in supporting Vienna International School in its environmental approach.

Vienna International School takes great pride in being the first international Eco School in Austria and models an example of responsibility for our students to experience in their every day school life, to inspire and educate them to be environmentally aware and protect our planet.
