Vienna International School was proud to take part in the event again this year. VIS was well-represented with 11 relay teams participating, made up of staff and students, as well as over 60 student helpers at the finish line. It was a great experience to witness the positive emotions of the athletes completing these challenging distances and to be able to award them their medals. Our student helpers particularly enjoyed awarding medals to their fellow students and teachers.
The community service programme is part of both the MYP and the IB DP curriculum and requires students to take an active part in the communities in which they live. The emphasis is on developing community awareness and concerns and acquiring the skills to make an effective contribution to society. This enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning. At the same time, it provides an important counterbalance to the pressures of the rest of the academic programme.
Due to the successful and long-term relationship between the Vienna City Marathon and Vienna International School, the organisers of the marathon have donated 1000€ to Maher, the charity that VIS supports for over 15 years.
