Students Partnership with UNODC Trust Fund

Students Forge a Collaborative Partnership with UNODC Trust Fund to Combat Human Trafficking.

A group of 20 dedicated students from Grades 9 to 11 have been granted a unique opportunity to collaborate with the Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking, a division of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). By joining this initiative, the students will not only enhance their advocacy and fundraising skills but also integrate relevant content from the Humanities and Geography curricula, both within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (IBDP).

The UNODC Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking plays a vital role in alleviating the suffering of individuals affected by this heinous crime. The fund's focus is to provide comprehensive support to victims of human trafficking, ranging from counselling and education to medication, housing provision, and vocational training.

The invitation extended to the VIS students marks a significant milestone in their educational journey. By forging a partnership with the UNODC Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking, the students are presented with a unique opportunity to actively contribute to the global fight against human trafficking. Beyond raising awareness and funds, this collaboration will enable them to develop their advocacy skills, gain firsthand knowledge about the challenges faced by victims, and understand the multifaceted strategies employed to combat human trafficking.

The partnership with the UNODC Trust Fund allows students to connect their learning across multiple disciplines. Within the Humanities curriculum, they can delve into the socio-economic, cultural, and political factors that contribute to human trafficking, enabling a deeper understanding of this complex issue. Additionally, the Geography curriculum provides a platform for exploring the geographical aspects of human trafficking, such as migration patterns, vulnerable regions, and the role of globalisation. By bridging academic content with real-world challenges, students will gain a holistic perspective and develop critical thinking skills essential for addressing social issues, as well as engage in a range of activities aimed at raising awareness and funds to support the cause.

The collaboration between the VIS and the UNODC Trust Fund signifies a step forward for our school. By embracing this partnership, our students will not only develop essential skills in advocacy and fundraising but also apply their knowledge from the curricula to address real-world challenges.
