NASA Inspires VIS Students with a Presentation

On 7 June, Vienna International School had the incredible honour of hosting a team from NASA for an enlightening presentation.

Led by Catherine Koerner, the deputy associate administrator for the Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, the NASA team engaged with eager students from Grade 7 and 11 during their science classrooms, sparking a sense of wonder and igniting curiosity about the vast realm of space exploration.

As a distinguished leader in the field, Catherine Koerner holds a pivotal role within NASA's mission to explore the Moon and Mars. In her position, Mrs. Koerner provides strategic direction and oversees the development and operations of human spaceflight initiatives aligned with NASA's exploration goals. Prior to her appointment as deputy associate administrator, Koerner played a pivotal role as the program manager for NASA's Orion Program. In this capacity, she spearheaded the development and operations of the cutting-edge spacecraft that will transport astronauts on Artemis missions to the Moon and ensure their safe return to Earth. With her extensive experience and expertise, Koerner brings a wealth of knowledge and insights to the students at VIS.

During the presentation, Ms. Koerner warmly engaged with the students, fielding numerous questions about space exploration and sharing captivating details about NASA's latest missions. The students had the unique opportunity to learn about ongoing projects and initiatives within the organisation, gaining valuable insights into the exciting future of space exploration. The interaction with NASA's team not only broadened the students' knowledge of space exploration but also served as a source of inspiration and motivation. The students were encouraged to dream big and pursue their passions, recognizing that the field of space science offers endless opportunities for discovery and innovation.

As the VIS students reflect on this extraordinary encounter, the hope is that it will ignite a sense of wonder and curiosity, inspiring students to pursue their interests and make their mark on the future of space exploration and scientific discovery.
