Laternefest Celebration at VIS

Celebrating St. Martin’s Day with a Festive Laternenfest

On Monday, 18 November, students, parents, and staff gathered to celebrate St. Martin’s Day with a traditional Laternenfest. This cherished Austrian tradition, typically observed on 11 November, honors St. Martin of Tours, renowned for his kindness, humility, and generosity toward those in need.

In keeping with local customs, the school community came together for a festive lantern procession around the track, with beautifully crafted lanterns designed by our youngest students. The glowing parade served as a symbolic reminder that while each individual light may be small, together, we can shine brightly.

The event also carried a spirit of giving, as funds were raised through the sale of tea lights, food, and refreshments, contributing an impressive €871.75 to the school’s sponsored charity, Maher.

A heartfelt thank you to all who contributed to making this event a success, from organizing the lanterns to supporting students in learning more about this special Austrian tradition. Events like these foster cultural appreciation and also help strengthen our school’s sense of community and generosity.
