Starting in November 2024, the Grade 10 students in German Phase 3.2 embarked on a unit called Responsible Living, where they explored biodiversity in Vienna and various methods of preservation. The unit also made connections to other subjects, including science and humanities. One of the highlights of the unit was a workshop led by Mrs. Hendrichs.
From the outset, the students were determined to make a meaningful impact. They proposed an innovative idea: to “donate” their grades. Throughout the unit, they contributed to a charity fundraiser by raising money through their vocabulary tests and writing assessments. The class then presented several charitable organizations, with a vote determining which cause they would support.
Three months later, the students raised an impressive total of $241 for the charity organization 4ocean. Although Austria is landlocked and not directly surrounded by the sea, our international school community, with students and staff from around the world, is increasingly aware of the global issues affecting our environment, including the impacts of climate change and globalization.
A huge congratulations to Grade 10 for their dedication! To learn more about 4ocean, visit 4ocean.
