DVAC Budapest Track & Field Achievement

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the VIS Track and Field Team took part in the annual DVAC (Donau Valley Athletic Conference) Track & Field Festival in Budapest, Hungary.

Seven international schools from Hungary, Slovakia and Austria took part in the competition. The VIS team was represented by 13 athletes:

Middle School (MS) Girls - Selina Landrichter, Isolde O’Donnell, Clara Dietz Gimeno, Stephanie Sliter, Zara Alford, Maria Papadimitriou, Yanxi Zhu.

Middle School (MS) Boys - Nino Linnau, Henri-Pierre Lauzon, Voidan Pepovski.

High School (HS) Boys – Mate Imre, Sami Al-Kital, Samuel Nittenberg.

This competition has the status of a "Festival", so no medals were handed out, but the results shown by the VIS T&F team were really impressive.

In total, the VIS Middle School team achieved six 1st places and two 3rd places. Also, our athletes showed some good results in individual events, taking 4th, 5th and 7th places.

Voidan Pepovski - was the first in 100m and also showed the best result in 200m among MS Boys. His result was a full 1 second better than the 2nd place result. In addition, Vojdan was part of the HS boys relay team, and helped the VIS HS relay team achieve 3rd place.

Zara Alford - won 1st place among MS Girls at a distance of 400 m with an excellent result, more than 2 seconds better than the second runner. Also, Zara was the first among MS Girls at a distance of 800m.

Stephanie Sliter managed to set the best result of the competition (and her own) in the Long Jump among the MS Girls with a result of 4.04 metres. In fact, she was the only MS girl to jump over 4 metres!

Selina Landrichter finished third in the MS Girls Long Jump with her own best of 3.66m.

In the MS Girls 4x100m relay, our girls took 3rd place: Selina Landrichter, Isolde O’Donnell, Stephanie Sliter, Zara Alford.

In the MS Girls 4x400 relay, the relay team consisting of Isolde O'Donnell, Stephanie Sliter, Yanxi Zhu, Zara Alford took 1st place. It was a very difficult race: after a long wait and when everyone was already exhausted after the previous races. But our girls pulled themselves together and did everything in their power, including the fantastic acceleration that Zara demonstrated during the last leg of the relay. She started her part of the race almost twenty metres behind the runner from the opposing team, but with a huge effort of will, she managed to get ahead of her rival before the finish line. All this helped our MS girls to show the best time among the participating 7 teams!

The High School team, even though limited to just three athletes, was able to achieve a tally of four 1st places, one 2nd place and two 3rd placements. Unfortunately, the HS Girls were not able to join us for the event, but we hope to see them perform later in the season at the next DVAC competition in Bratislava.

Mate Imre – blazing past the competition for wins in the 100m (11.85s) and 200m events (23.96s). Mate was also a significant factor in the 3rd place finish at the 4x100m event. It was great having Mate compete with us, even with his shortly upcoming exams, he set a great example as a senior and role-model for the younger athletes. We wish him all the best on his IB examinations!

Sami Al-Kital – Edging out the competition in shot put, with a distance of 9.13m, coming in 1st place, despite being one of the youngest competitors. Sami also placed 3rd in the 400m with a time of 58.85 seconds.

Samuel Nittenberg – finished 1st in the 800 metre event with a time of 2:36.9, despite considering not participating in the event due to fatigue from the previous competitions. Samuel also took 2nd place in the 400 metre competition with a time of 58.33.

In HS 4x100m relay – the boys, with the assistance of Voidan Pepovski from the middle-school team, managed to run a time of 49.66s for a strong 3rd place.

We are very proud of the determination and will to win of our participants! You are a great team that knows how to work hard, concentrate before the start, show the best results, and at the same time do not forget to have fun, support each other and enjoy our training and competitions together! We thank coaches Dmitry Khalin, Alexander Lazarev and Kayla Flanagan, as well as all parents for their support, patience and enthusiasm.
