Competitive Sports

The VIS competitive sports program gives students the opportunity to compete against schools and clubs within the International Schools Sports Tournaments (ISST), Sports Council of International Schools (SCIS), Danube Valley Athletic Conference (DVAC), Österreichische Schülerliga (Austrian student league) and at other local sports tournaments. VIS offers a range of sports to allow the students to experience and enjoy a balanced programme, which aims to develop an all round athlete.

The role of the competitive sports programme is to both extend and supplement the regular curricular programmes of the school.  Its aim is not only to promote excellence in sporting achievement, but also to cultivate the qualities of good sportsmanship i.e., cooperation, team work, respect for others, both on and off the field, and the ability to both win and lose with grace.  To this end all our athletes are expected to exhibit the highest standards of responsibility and behaviour in their pursuit of sporting excellence.

We see this programme as an integral part of your child's education, and hope that you will encourage your child to take part. The following varsity or junior varsity teams for boys and girls compete in three separate seasons:

Season 1

Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country

Season 2

Basketball, Alpine Skiing, Rugby

Season 3

Golf, Softball, Track & Field, Volleyball, Rugby, Tennis

Sports Award Dinner
The largest event organised by the Booster Club is the annual Sports Award Dinner, held in June to honour our athletes, celebrate their efforts, and to show appreciation to the parents for their support. Running since 2004, the dinner is attended by over 250 members of the VIS community who participate in junior varsity and varsity sports teams.
