In December 2019, Vienna International School (VIS) has received a very encouraging news.
The efforts of our school - in terms of delivering an education for sustainable development and empowering our students and teachers to take climate friendly actions - were acknowledged by in the International School Awards 2020, organized by ISC Research and ISL Magazine. The International School Leaders Magazine is a publication which shares innovative ideas, creative insights and best practice with the international schools around the world, in an attempt to support the student learning, development and international school management.
The International School Awards comes to celebrate the learning concept reflected through teaching, pastoral care, leadership and strategic initiatives within international schools. The awards provide the opportunity for international schools to share their best practices, creative endeavours, community participation, and innovation. Vienna International School was shortlisted for the Environmental Initiative Section of the Awards, along with three other schools (JBCN International School India, St Andrews International School Bangkok and American School of Dubai).
The achievements that put our school on this shortlist were mainly reflecting our young students’ efforts to understand the unique challenges the planet has been facing, developing insights and finding big and small ways to bring their positive change to the school and the world around. At VIS, we are fortunate to see every day students raising awareness about climate change, planting lavender to encourage pollination, harvesting, picking major world challenges as topics for the personal projects.
This nomination celebrates the way our students are applying the education for sustainable development in the everyday life in meaningful, age appropriate ways that impact and inspire all of us. We highly congratulate our Green Teams for this noticeable recognition and for their constant determination to act as global reliable citizens!
